A Long Term Goal1/5/2014 "and God Created Adam"The concept for this large painting has been in the works in my head for a long time. It's based on the numerous sketches of male figures I have developed over a period of a couple of years, drawing from models in a drop-in life drawing session I attend. I've already developed my other painting/collage of women, "Downtime at the Acropolis", which I published here a few months ago. Here, in this new piece, I wanted to make reference to the important place of the NUDE in the history of art, as an acceptable subject. After all, everyone HAS a BODY! Apparently we were, as the story goes, created nude. And then ...there was the fig leaf. The fact of myself, a woman, developing art based on this subject is not a new one. This came first, before our "right to vote". Some of the artist's sketches which I have collaged into the piece are, Michelangelo, Rubens, Raphael, Degas, Sargent, figures of athletes rendered on Greek pottery, and a male torso brought to life by a Roman sculptor. All of these were created as inspired by the natural form of the body..because it exists and, male or female, it is of miraculous beauty.
The moral of the story is...EAT FEWER potato chips, and I might include you in my next major fiurative work.
