KAREN HALPERN-ARTIST

Developing Ideas for Paintings Yet to Become

5/30/2011

Almost finished the drawing for my still life painting last night. Hoping to finish tonight and begin painting.

Since I'm also an acrylic artist, I spent a good deal of time yesterday researching a theme I want to express on a large canvas in the next couple of months. There are a couple of these ideas kicking around in my mind, and we will see which reigns supreme as the next painting I commit to. I find if I talk about the ideas, their urgency disappears, and I lose interest in painting, since I've already expressed much about them verbally. There are ideas for paintings that I've explorecd in my head beginning perhaps as much as forty years ago. I still expect to paint some of those images, as I've held on to them for so long, and their impact seems just as important to me now as then.
