KAREN HALPERN-ARTIST

Inspired by the White Horse

8/5/2014

I just finished this watercolor painting. I let the sketch I had done a few weeks ago sit dormant until a few nights ago. Having not painted for a while, I felt I needed to dive back in. I always feel, especially with watercolor, that the painting technique gets rusty when not being used. This collection of objects started with the white ceramic horse. On the same day, I purchased the glass vase, loving it for its height and it's color as I knew it would play out with the white horse. I placed the fabric behind, enjoying its motives, and added some Asian feeling pieces that are part of my collection of objects at home that find their way into some of my work. Havng completed the painting after several evenings of working on it into the wee hours of the morning, I thought it would be revealing to photograph the still life arrangement I worked from, which then would play up the many things I did in the painting that were not really accurate to the setup. Hope you enjoy the creative process.
