KAREN HALPERN-ARTIST

March Madness

3/8/2014

It seemed like everything I touched today turned to gold. The model in the drop-in life drawing session was one of my favorited to draw from. 15 minute poses and half hour poses fell into place, even those I felt uncertain about. I worked on toned paper, buff, cream, light golden yellow. My material was black or brown crayolas of a large size (for preschoolers). Then brushing on liquid acrylics added depth and definition. The Model stood for 15 minutes in this pose. Seemed like once I drew the curve of her back, the remainder of he drawing found itself onto the page.

In this 1/2 hour drawing I added white lithogaph pencil to bring out the highlights , working on a soft colored paper. So many times in the ession today, I was able to get into the image and the process and let it take its place on my page. It was the process of disappearing  into what I was doing, rather than being conscious of the lines that I was drawing.
